Be yourself. . .

Be yourself? What the F*** does that mean?

Everyone says that. They all tell you to be yourself, when you’re in a world full of people who will do anything to not be themselves. It’s hypocritical if you ask me. The reason I am talking about this is because my friend got the same saying earlier today at work. My boss was giving her a hard time and the advice she got from another co-worker was to ‘be herself’. WTF?!

I honestly do believe that you can’t find yourself just like that. Not in a snap of your fingers, or clack of your shoes. Frankly, you have to be someone else before you know who you are or before you can ‘be yourself’. Being yourself is not an easy task for some people. It’s hard to find who you are or things you like but its not about the destination but the journey.

So to all those who are out there and are ‘finding themselves’ here’s my advice to you; STOP LOOKING. Don’t wait for your right self to come, be with who you are now and enjoy it (if it’s enjoyable). If you don’t like who you are now, then CHANGE IT! But remember, Rome was not built in a day. Change takes time… a whole lot of time, especially if its a lifestyle change. You must be dedicated and determined and committed, which all mean the same thing… ish.

Helpful tip?

Get a pen and paper, calm yourself and close your eyes. Relax and take a deep breath or two. Then open your eyes and write down the pros and cons about who you are now. It may take a two hours or two days even, because it’s hard to remember everything about yourself in one sitting, but it’s doable. Now I’m not saying this works or that it doesn’t work, but, writing down the pros and cons of yourself is a step forward in figuring out who you are.
